Description

Patrick Henry Champion of Liberty by Jon Kukla

Patrick Henry is best remembered today for saying “Give me liberty of give me death!”  But his rich contribution to American Independence consisted of far more than one speech.  In his time Henry was as highly regarded as his contemporary fellow Virginians Jefferson and Madison, and admired as perhaps the finest orator in the land.  Henry was a delegate to the first Continental Congress, he led the Virginian militia when it confronted the royal governor of Virginia, and he was the state’s first postcolonial governor,  But as with other Virginia patriots, his dedication to the cause of liberty did not preclude owning slaves.  Paperback
